LONDON(AFP) (AFP) - US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday the Obama administration wanted to paint roofs an energy-reflecting white, as he took part in a climate change symposium in London.
The Nobel laureate in physics called for a "new revolution" in energy generation to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
But he warned there was no silver bullet for tackling climate change, and said a range of measures should be introduced, including painting flat roofs white.
Making roads and roofs a paler colour could have the equivalent effect of taking every car in the world off the road for 11 years, Chu said.
It was a geo-engineering scheme that was "completely benign" and would keep buildings cooler and reduce energy use from air conditioning, as well as reflecting sunlight back away from the Earth.
For people who found white hard on the eye, scientists had also developed "cool colours" which looked to the human eye like normal ones, but reflect heat like pale colours even if they are darker shades.
And painting cars in cool or light colours could deliver considerable savings on energy use for air conditioning units, he said.
Speaking at the start of a symposium on climate change hosted by the Prince of Wales and attended by more than 20 Nobel laureates, Chu said fresh thinking was required to cut the amount of carbon created by power generation.
He said: "The industrial revolution was a revolution in the use of energy. It offloaded from human and animal power into using fossil fuels.
"We have to go to a different new revolution that can severely decrease the amount of carbon emissions in the generation of energy."

First PPA Agreement Signed

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Patriot Roofing and Solar is pleased to announce the first Power Purchase Agreement(PPA)has been entered into with Applied Solar, Solar Communities for an 8kW system located in Carlsbad, CA.

The home currently averages $450.00 a month in electricity charges. With the new system to be installed, the charges will be reduced to $263.00 per month over the next 20 years which at the minumum, will yield an overall savings of $45,000.00 should SDGE rates remain the same. However, over the last 30 years, the San Diego utility has had significant price increases each year which historically could amount to as much as an $80,000.00 savings over the same period of time.

Solar Training in Rialto

It was only fitting that on April 27th, seven team members from Patriot Roofing and Solar attended an all day "above the roof" and "below the roof" training in one of the sunnies places in Southern California, the Eagle Roofing HQ's in Rialto, CA.

This was the second all day training for Patriot Roofing and Solar management and sales people, but the first since the formation of our completely integrated and self-sufficient model of all phases, including; SOLAR, ROOFING, AND ELECTRICAL contracting.

Patriot Roofing and Solar Offers 175 Watt Black Panel

Patriot Roofing and Solar is pleased to expand its strategic alliance with Eagle Roofing Products by now offering a traditional 175 watt "black panel" solar module. This comes on the heels of the fourth completed BIPV Solar Module installation and goes to further expand Patriot Roofing and Solar as the premier and complete Roofing and Solar Integrator combined.

The new panel offering will be offered primarily for commercial buildings and can also be a alternative choice for those homeowners who do not demand the need for the building integrated photo voltaic solar save tiles which have a tremendous aesthetic advantage over the larger, rack mounted panels.

Solar Open House this past Sunday a Success!

Monday, April 6, 2009

This past Sunday, April 5th, Patriot Roofing and Applied Solar enjoyed an Open House like no other... a Solar Open House. The turnout was great. Many neighbors, locals, and outside residents came to view the solar integrated roofing tiles at 517 Colima Street in beautiful La Jolla, CA. There was staff on location answering questions regarding the installation process as well as financing options. Financing the solar system is a great option compared to paying for a system out of pocket. The roofing and solar was installed recently by Patriot Roofing, Inc., a local San Diego roofing contractor. The BIPV (building integrated photo voltaic) system has reduced the owner's montly electricity charges by as much as 75%. The BIPV system integrates with the roofing tile in a seamless and aesthetically pleasing fashion. It differs greatly with the traditional rack-mounted systems and in most circumstances, the solar efficiency is roughly the same. Another Open House is scheduled for April 18 at 2722 La Gran Via, Carlsbad, CA 92009. Please call Patriot Roofing for more details at 888-749-7663.
